MOST OF THE PEOPLE THINK THAT MASTIFFS ARE STUBBORN DOGS TO TRAIN – I DO NOT AGREE!

Training Stubborn Dogs
MOST OF THE PEOPLE THINK THAT MASTIFFS ARE STUBBORN DOGS TO TRAIN – I DO NOT AGREE!

Mastiffs for some people can be a large and intimidating dog. However, some of the people who are owners or going to be future owners they might think that they are an impossible dog to train because of how stubborn they can be. He should behave properly around people, other pets, and most importantly around kids. Here are two reasons why you might think that they are going to be a very stubborn dog to train.

The first reason why you might think that they will be difficult to teach is because they can be very stubborn. Now if you know that your male at first didn’t like what you are telling him to do and he would constantly fight against you on what you wanted him to do. So you had to break through that stubborn portion of his mind until he finally listened to you.

The second reason why you might think that they will be hard to train is because of how large they are. I know from experience that for some reason people think that as the dog size increases the difficulty in training them increases as well, but that is far from the truth in my experience. I know that larger pets are much easier to train than the small one.

So if you are a future owner of a Mastiff then you will want to remember that they are easy to train normally. I know that you will definitely want to make sure that they are trained because of how large they are going to be.

How to Stop Dog Barking

Stop Dog Barking
There are many reasons for dog barking. Your dog may bark as a warning that your home has been broken into by a burglar or to let you know of the approach of a stranger. Dog barking is also used to get attention or to intimidate the dog owner or others. Whatever the reason for the barking, I’m sure we are all in agreement that it is annoying and ways need to be found to stop it quickly. Owners of constantly barking dogs are sometimes charged with disturbing the peace. Luckily, there are several ways to discourage dogs from barking without good reason.

Training your dog when it is appropriate for him to bark is the probably the best way to stop unwanted barking. Although there are a number of options, the best way is the reward/reprimand method. This is an effective and humane method.

In order to avoid using this training method, some dog owners use an electronic bark collar which emits a small electric shock when the dog barks. Eventually, the dog barking ceases as the dog connects his barking with an unpleasant experience. I am of the opinion that using this method to stop dog barking is inhumane and cruel.

Electronic collars should not be used for a variety of reasons, one being that not all dogs connect their barking with the uncomfortable shock. They learn to tolerate the shock and continue to bark. In addition, if the prongs on the collar do not touch the dog’s skin, a dog with a thick coat will not feel the shock. It should be noted that only using an electronic collar for training rarely stops dog barking. For the best results, dog obedience training is also necessary.

Some people are of the opinion that electronic collars could discourage dogs, even though the collar may not really them. People who have this viewpoint often use citronella collars which work on a similar principle to electronic collars. The citronella collar emits a mist when the dog barks. As dogs tend to dislike the smell, they will begin to connect their barking with the foul aroma and will stop barking. The success rate is about the same as for electronic collars.

Although electronic collars can be useful training tools, most vets and dog trainers feel that they cannot be used as a replacement for good obedience training. Dog obedience training helps to solve more dog behavior issues than just dog barking.

Surgery is sometimes used to stop dog barking. This is the most barbaric and drastic option. The dog is prevented from barking by having a piece of tissue removed from the larynx. There have been cases where the dog’s ability to bark has returned, voiding the goal of the surgery. Thankfully, most vets are opposed to surgery to stop dog barking.

I hope we have managed to convince you that good dog obedience training is essential for dog barking and most other dog behavior problems. It is worth noting that if a dog stops barking with an electronic collar, he will not bark when a burglar enters your home. However, a dog that is given obedience training will know the appropriate times to bark and will protect you and your family.

Dog Biting – How To Ensure That Our Children Are Safe

Stop dog Biting
Does your pet dog have a tendency to bite? It’s an issue that if left alone, can become a critical one. Here are a few facts that may help you understand why your dog is biting, and a few tips on how you can help your dog overcome their habit.

First of all, it is important to understand why your dog bites. The main reason is the canine instinct that all dogs have. Long ago, before dogs became domestic animals, they were wild and ran around in packs. The reason they bite is because of their instinct to dominate. Biting is a way dogs are able to show their authority and dominance over other dogs in the pack. Because of this instinct, your dog is biting in order to establish dominance and control.

Here are a few tips on stopping biting if your dog is still a puppy. When puppies bite, there may be several reasons for this. The first is that your puppy may simply be teething, and wants something to chew on. Also puppies bite when they are unsure of their rank in the “family” pack, and start biting to try to show dominance. If this is the case, you will want to show your new puppy that you are the leader and the one in control. Obedience training is a must, and it will also set a solid foundation for other doggie behavior issues and will also start your relationship with your puppy off on the right foot.

If your dog is no longer a puppy, but is considered a “teenager” (this is usually dogs from 1 to 2 years old) the training becomes a little more difficult, but it is still possible to rid your dog of this habit. Once your puppy becomes an older puppy, their cute chewing and gnawing becomes “play biting,” which is rougher than before. Though the nips may not break the skin or even hurt, it must be stopped because your dog is forming bad and possibly dangerous habits. By changing various aspects of the pup’s life (such as where they sleep, what toys they may play with, what time they are fed), you are able to remind your dog that you are the one in charge, and this also shows them that you will not allow them to become the dominant figure in the household. Again, formal obedience training with a professional dog trainer will do wonders; it is definitely worth the time and cost you put into it.

Once a dog reaches adulthood, the biting routine is very difficult to crack. By that time, a dog has already established its domain as the leader of the pack, and assumes authority for everything in and on your property. If the dog feels a family member is out of line, they will bite. This can be corrected, but the only reliable way is to hire a professional dog trainer that can work with you and your dog to break this biting habit.

Breaking a dog of biting is difficult and time consuming, but it is necessary; otherwise, your dog will grow up biting more and more until it becomes a serious problem. It is best if you nip it in the bud and start teaching your dog not to bite from the soonest time possible. Good luck beating the biting!

Considerations When Buying Dog Training Equipment

dog training equipment
uper stores are full of products aimed at dog owners. How much value all these products have when is sometimes unknown, but for most people there is nothing to good for their dog. When it comes to dog training equipment it is often hard to know what works and what doesn’t. Before going out and buying all the latest training aids and gizmos it is best to stop and think about what your goals are for your dog. The first thing to consider is the breed of dog you have. Every dog is different and so are the various breeds. Some are better at doing some things while others are better at other things. Do research on the type of dog you have. Visit your local book store and find a good book that covers everything you might need to know about your dog. You can also find valuable information on the internet about caring for and training your particular dog. By doing research before hand you will have a good idea which type of dog training equipment will work best for you. Everybody has different goals when it comes to training their dog. You will have to decide what you want to teach them and how to best go about doing that. The methods used are vastly different if you’re just interested in having a well behaved family pet as compared to a hunting dog. Even then there are different levels of training among dogs doing specific types of activities. There can even be differences in the way different breeds of dogs are trained to do essentially the same tasks. The amount of training and equipment needed will be different for the different needs of dog owners. One thing to remember is that for thousands of years dogs have been trained in pretty much the same way. With a leash and collar, lots of praise and giving them treats for a job well done. With all the modern training aids that are supposed to make the job easier one has to wonder if maybe we are making it more difficult then need be. Buying dog training equipment may give you a sense of accomplishment if it does what it is advertised to, but sometimes its hard to forget that for all our modern sophistication dogs are still relatively simple creature who respond to the simplest of methods.

Stop Dog Barking
Do you feel as though the ability to stop dog barking in your noisy pet is something that is simply out of your reach? You may feel as though it can never happen, that your pooch is just too determined to make noise, but there may actually be a cause to this racket.

To start, your dog may be trying to tell you something about his or her needs. Remember that you can’t stop dog barking completely since it is the main method of vocal communication for a dog and by taking it away he or she can’t express issues regarding boredom, loneliness, fear, hunger, or the need to go out or come in. It is also important to recognize that some kinds of dog breeds are predisposed to being yappy, such as Yorkies, Schnauzers, Cairn Terriers, Beagles, and Fox Terriers.

That being said, you can stop dog barking when it becomes excessive. To accomplish this, you must communicate to your dog that barking is acceptable sometimes, and not acceptable at other times.

When I was challenged by my dog a friend of mine recommended a training program that completely transformed his dog (following tips are just a quick insight). This train a dog program makes miracles, literally .

My life suddenly changed. What once seemed to be mission impossible changed to the easiest thing in the World. Sometimes I still can’t belive the difference this program made in our lives.

Use these 7 guaranteed techniques to get your effort to stop dog barking off the ground:

Take charge – keep on top of the barking habit. React right away and command your dog to be quiet. Make your voice sound deep, like a dog’s growl, so that you show that you’re serious. Turn your back on it – if the barking won’t stop on command, ignore the dog completely. Do this by turning completely away from your dog, never looking at him or her, and walking straight out of the room. Don’t give any kind of attention or recognition as you stop dog barking habits. When your dog does stop the barking, make sure to be generous with the praise. Make the praise pleasant and genuine so that your dog knows that you’re pleased with his or her behavior. Exercise your dog every day to stop dog barking that results from pent-up energy. Keep your pup exercised to stop dog barking caused by restlessness. Cut boredom in your dog by playing with him or her and giving lots of attention every day. Although it won’t replace lots of daily attention, do make sure that your dog has lots of toys that will keep him or her busy. Keep a schedule – the more predictable your behaviors, the less likely your dog will be to bark in order to try to tell you his or her needs. For example, feed your dog at the same time every day so you don’t have to be informed that he or she is hungry. Don’t try to stop dog barking completely, it is your dog’s way of communication with World. It is only the excess yapping that you can eliminate. By bringing a dog home, you have to accept the fact that barking is a part of what that animal is all about.

By using these seven techniques, you’re guaranteed to stop dog barking that is excessive and unwanted, and finally have some peace and quiet.

Dog Fleas

Stop dog Biting
Ok so you want to know about dog fleas, what they do, how they do it, and what dangers you should look out for if you’re suspecting fleas on your dog or in your home.

Well let me start of by saying there is over 2000 different varieties of flea in the world today, the female version of these small little pests can reproduce at the alarming rate of 50 eggs a day max and an average egg count is normally around 20- 30 a day. Fleas can start to lay eggs as soon as 48 hours after having their first blood meal which makes getting rid of these fleas early on essential.

Around half of the flea population are eggs, 30% larvae, 15% pupae and only around 5% of the population are biting adults. These larvae take anywhere from a week to a month to become biting fleas and as you can see by the stats, the key to stopping your flea problem and letting your dog get a good night sleep again is through getting rid of the eggs.

Fleas can’t reproduce without a blood meal from your dog or another animal but can survive for long periods of time (2 months to a year) in hibernation without a meal but usually they will die off within one week without hibernation.

They key places to look out for fleas are near your dog’s bed or under bushes outside that your pet sleeps or rests. Anywhere your dog lies for long periods of time are key areas for fleas to live.

To check for fleas on your dog you will first have probably noticed your dog being very restless and uncomfortable, so the next step is to search for flea faeces, this will look like small bits of dirt to the human eye and rubbing it between your fingers with some water will bring out the red colour of blood if it is flea faeces.

Once you have found evidence of flea faeces you are now ready to move on to the next big step and get rid of the pests that are making your dog feel so uncomfortable.

3 Common Dog Training Secrets

dog training secrets
Is there a reason many dog owners are not successful when training their dogs? Yes! Most people don’t start training early enough, when a dog is a puppy and is more receptive to training. The longer the training is left, the harder it is to train the dog.

There are three common dog training secrets that a dog owner needs to know to make teaching obedience more effective.

1. – Use positive reinforcement to teach good behavior. This will tell the dog that it’s behaving correctly, the way you want. Use treats like pieces of chicken to reward your dog when it has done a task correctly.

2. – Don’t confuse your dog. Be effective in the way your teach your dog by being consistent with your commands and actions. For example if your dog toilets inside the house, act on it immediately. Punishing your dog 15 minutes after the event will prove nothing. The dog has learn’t that going toilet inside is ok..

3. – Showing your dog attention as soon as you get home. If your dog is hyper at first, leave him alone till he calms down. If he jumps on you, turn your back to him and in a loud voice so “NO!” Give your dog attention when he calms down.

I have outlined three of the common dog training secrets that you can use to effectively train your dog.

Most importantly make sure that you don’t send your dog mixed signals. It is common for owners to do this, and the dog doesn’t understand. Like giving them attention when they are jumping all over you. This is the time that you need to be effective in your actions

Most people do not realise that there is more to training a dog than they first realise and it is something that must always be worked on.
