I own 6 dogs and every month I am pet-sitting about 7-10 other dogs trying to find them the best home. Friends are helping with pet sitting but it wasn’t easy to have 10-15 dogs in your house so we decided to set up a shelter. We bought an area about 4000m2 and set up all the necessary equipment we will need. (large cages, bowls, food etc we even built a park where dogs can play in groups)
Does anyone have any ideas about details that would make the difference for the dogs?
We built a fenced park for dogs with toys and equipment for many activities like machines for throwing balls, fly-ball, agility, obedience training, pulling, tracking and herding activities where owners come there with their dogs to play, train, socialize or just leave them to us for a couple of hours when they work. For now is all free just to test it but we need to charge it so that we can earn some money for the shelter and for the equipment. we think 15$/hour for pet-sitting, 20$/hour for training in activities. what do you think? can we raise the prices a little?
the park is not only machines etc. we have 5 pro dog-trainers and we (3) are involved ourselves. we also have about 10 volunteers every day from the local society for the prevention of cruelty to animals for activities like dog walks etc. and of course we have connection with 5 vets just in case we need them.
the first idea was to set up a shelter for abandond dogs until we find them a nice home. then more people wanted to help and came up with the idea of a park.
I am looking for details that will make dogs and owners to love the place.
Any ideas and critics are accepted.

dogs do not entertain themselves… so you don’t need machines for throwing balls, flyball, agility, obedience needs to be in a structured environment, and you need to be qualified to teach it.. so if you haven’t titled any dogs in these venues.. that is where you should start
u need chewing bones for them
a place for taking showers
mix all dogs together (so no females on one side and males on the other)
A huge dog house
a place for shade
and a cool place so they can take a nap
Whoa i am starting my own dog shelter to except i will be housing cats and unwanted fish that are left to me by family members as well as hamsters .well for dogs you could have an area tosee how wellthe dog interacts with the ”’adoptees” dogs so you dont get ‘returned’ dogs
I tihnk prices are good. I think you should have little confy beds for them and each have their own toy, also get some of those igloo dog things they have different sizes for big dogs and little dogs and we used to have some of them and my dogs layed and slept in there alot. Just if you put a blacnket in it or something, you should be good.
