Some Ideas on House Training a Puppy

House Training a Puppy
The joy of owning a puppy and seeing it grow up is among the most gratifying experiences that a dog lover could ask for. There are many things that you and the puppy will discover about each other en route to establishing a long and trusting relationship. House training a puppy is one of the first tasks that completed if you are going to have the puppy indoors for any length of time. Fortunately, a puppy learns things very fast, and house training can be learned very quickly. This is why it is so important to establish the correct house training routine while the puppy is at a young age. The house training routine that a puppy acquires can be difficult to break once it is established, so it is important to get it right the first time.

One of the most significant things to do during the initial house training of a puppy is to observe the puppy Keep a close eye on the puppy while at the same time observing the time. If your puppy is very active, and the weather is nice outside, it is nothing wrong with taking him outside more than once an hour. He has to drink more water than he would if he were an adult dog due to his metabolism being so fast. He has to eat a lot more often to feed this higher metabolism, also. Just remember that all of this eating and drinking will make the puppy have to “go” more than normal.

A method of house training that has the puppy using the bathroom on newspapers is called the paper method. Teaching your puppy to relieve himself indoors, then expecting him to make the transition to relieve himself outdoors will tend to confuse your young puppy. It will take longer and be more difficult to house train your puppy using this method, studies have shown. By teaching your puppy to “go” outside, he will learn that it is not acceptable to “go” in the house. Also, the puppy could get in the habit of relieving itself near the newspaper rather than on the newspaper. Just keep things consistent by having your puppy relieve himself only outside.

A very effective system that develops positive results is known as the “crate” system. The puppy is kept in a crate for roughly an hour before he is taken outdoors to relieve himself. While in the crate, the puppy is trained to “hold it” until he is let out to relieve himself, which is normally outdoors. Why this system works so well is based on the puppy doesn’t want to relieve himself in its living area. If you keep the puppy in the crate too long, it could cause him to relieve himself in the crate. If this happens, it can compromise this training technique.

House training a puppy is an essential step in dog training if you would like your puppy to establish good habits from the beginning. Being consistent and giving you puppy a lot of praise is an important part in house training your puppy. It is okay if the puppy has an accident during this training, because the process is not an overnight thing. By carrying the puppy outside more often, this should put an end to these accidents. If the puppy has an accident after training has ended, don’t punish him. Merely return back to the training process temporarily and you’ll be back on track in no time.

Aggressive Dog Behavior: Dog Training for Both You and Your Dog is Required

Training Stubborn Dogs
Stopping aggressive dog behavior is very important.  What starts out as harmless aggression could turn into severe aggression.  When you allow dog aggression, the dog believes he can get away with any behavior.  This could become stressful and dangerous, if the dog were to get out of control.

Aggressive dog behavior manifests in many different ways.  Some of the manifestations of this dominant behavior are:

Biting and growling Jumping on people Being disobedient and stubborn Pulling you on the leash Nudging you to perform a certain action, such as petting them

It is very important to watch out for these and other signs of aggressive behavior.  When a dog is aggressive he believes he is the leader.  As a leader his behavior can take on different aggressions.  What started out an insignificant  behavior could escalate over time to manifest as dangerous and scary dog behavior.

Small dogs tend to get away with more aggressive behavior because of their size.  For example, if a small dog jumps on people it is not seen as bad as a big dog, which has a lot more weight and could hurt you.  But that does not mean that this behavior should be acceptable, even in small dogs.  It is the aggressiveness which needs to be addressed.  And besides, small dogs can also severely hurt people, especially children.

In order to correct aggressive dog behavior you could hire a trainer.  However, not only is the trainer very expensive, but he only trains the dog.  You need to be trained as much as your dog, as you need to regain leadership.  There are a lot of changes you will need to make to learn how to communicate effectively with your dog.

Aggressive dog behavior has to be stopped as soon as possible.  Don’t wait until you are faced with a big lawsuit or take the chances of your dog injuring someone.  That would probably be very devastating.

There are a great many tools that can be utilized in dog training schools. All of these tools are quite helpful when utilized in the training of a dog. The following will introduce you to some of the tools that are utilized in dog training schools and how they can benefit you in the training of your dog.

The clicker is a very useful tool that is used in a lot of dog training schools. What exactly is a clicker you might be wondering? A clicker is a small object that is made out of plastic and contains a small piece of metal inside. The clicker makes a clicking noise when it is squeezed and then released. Using a clicker is a great way to get your dogs attention and once he learns the noise that it makes he will be able to recognize it almost anywhere.

Another tool that you will often find in dog training schools would be the dog leash. The dog leash by far is one of the most commonly used while training a dog. Dog leashes come in a variety of sizes from very short leashes that are used when a trainer wants to exert more control while training to much longer leashes that are used when behaviors that require a bit more freedom are being taught to dogs. There are even leashes that allow dogs a certain amount of freedom then automatically recoil when the trainer wishes the dog to return to them.

A tool that has become quite popular in dog training schools as well as widely enjoyed by dogs themselves is the treat carrier. These special containers allow a dog trainer to be able to carry around a supply of dog treats to use while training their dog. They are quite handy and keep you from having to get your clothing dirty or having to carry around treats in a plastic bag, which could get quite cumbersome.

A tool that is often utilized in dog training schools if a dog has issues with biting is a muzzle. A dog needs to be carefully introduced to this method of training and if the training is done properly it can be extremely efficient in ridding a dog of a potentially hurtful habit.

These are just a few tools of the trade that can be found in dog training schools. There are many more out there and the training tools can vary greatly depending on what type of training you are planning to do with your dog.
