Dog Training Tips: Hoe to activate a dog?

dog training equipment
Is your dog a little bit too energetic sometimes? Particularly puppies and young dogs could be rather hyperactive. Some mental stimulation keeps them more satisfied. There´s a wide range of activity toys and dog training equipments (for example kongs, soft dog toys, hard chew toys, dummies, interactive dog toys) on the market, but you can do without them!

One of the most popular dog activity games is surely hiding some food. Dog (preferably hungry) has to use its nose to find tidbits. Remember that food has to be very delicious. Hide tidbits indoors or outdoors (grass, snow, forest etc.) and make it more difficult step by step. You can also make a trail (smell) of blood or food for dog to track, and at the end of the trail is of course lots of food or dog´s favorite toy! If you dont have time to hide some food, give a delicious bone to the dog. Or if your dog isnt so fond of food, but loves his toys (ball, sticks etc.), hide them!

Lively dogs will often settle down if they are encouraged to use their brain more. Start putting an empty toilet roll on the floor and hide a tidbit inside of it. Dog has to figure out how to get the food! Make it more difficult step by step (paper roll, yoghurt can, box etc.). Some easy tricks are also very fun to learn. For example, teach your dog to sit, rollover, dance or weave in and out of your legs while you walk.

Stop Puppy Biting

Stop dog Biting
The razor sharp teeth that puppies seem to have can cause you some pain. You need to try to prevent your puppy from forming this habit of biting. In order to stop puppy biting different methods may have to be tried. Any little annoying or bad habits should not receive a reward. If you want your pup to mature into that wonderful family pet, you will need to take responsibility for helping him. Dog behavior is never “good” or “bad” it’s just behavior. It is going to take some time, but stopping a puppies bad habits needs to be done.

The playing behavior for a litter of puppies involves lots of nipping and biting. Nipping and biting their new owners is very common for puppies and will most likely be the first problem they have to overcome. All new puppies take part in this behavior, but as a new member of your family actions will need to be taken to control it.

Get some more tips here

When your pup bites you, quickly give him a sharp tap on the nose and say “NO”. If you tap the nose softly the puppy is only going to think that you are playing. A timid correction is a worthless correction. One good tap on the muzzle, that gets the puppies attention could stop puppy biting}. Another way to go is, immediately after he bites, grab his muzzle with one hand, point at him with the other, and firmly say “NO”, this will eventually tell him that biting is the wrong behavior. Your puppy may pick it up rather quickly, or it may take a little time, just remember to show some patience. You will eventually be able to correct your pup verbally once he understands what is going on. This verbal “NO” command is going to prove to be very handy when he starts chewing on your shoes, socks, newspapers or anything else laying around for him to test his teeth on.

Get Help Here

Another way of moving him away from biting you and your personal items is doggy bones and chew toys. When the teething stage hits he is going to need something to chew and bite on so the chew toys get to serve another purpose. Whatever toys you choose need to be appropriate, they will need to be able to stand up to the intense chewing by sharp teeth for an extended period of time. Be careful of toys that are to small or poorly made because they can break off into s tiny pieces and get stuck in their throat.

While playing with your puppy, don’t encourage him to bite and play rough or it may become a bigger challenge to stop puppy biting, it’s best to avoid any bad behavior traits at this stage. It is going to take some time to fix the problem no matter what method you choose to use. All puppies go through certain stages in their life and puppy biting happens to be one of them. Don’t worry though, you will be able to get through the biting stage, just stay firm and patient.

Dog Obedience Training – How To Train A Dog To Fetch

Training Stubborn Dogs
It’s certainly the case that for some dogs and particular breeds learn to fetch allot faster than other breeds. If you wan to teach any dog to fetch then follow these steps and it shouldn’t be a problem.

Tip 1 – Stage 1

Make sure you use something that your dog has familiarity with and enjoys. I taught my first dog to fetch by using his favorite furry teddy (with a squeak). I used this because my dog already enjoyed playing with this toy so it made the training process easier right from the start. The reason that I used a squeaky toy was it instantly focused his attention when I threw it. Although ropes and tug toys maybe one of your dog’s favorite toys -don’t use it when training to fetch as your dog is more accustomed to tug-of-war, and will want to play this with you instead of learning to fetch.

Tip 2 – Stage 2

In this stage you need to place your dog on a leash. You need to use a relatively long leash, something about 10 foot or slightly longer is perfect. The reason behind using a leash is that you don’t want to be chasing after your dog and trying to retrieve him. The longer the leash the better as it will enable your dog to run to fetch his toy but with you still having an element of control.

Tip 3 – Stage 3

I always use treats when I am training any dog to fetch – this keep and holds their attention. This stage is possibly the most difficult as you want to keep your dog your dog’s attention on the toy, the treats and on you. If you are starting the fetch training with a puppy – do the fetch training over a period of about a week – keep practicing this stage by trying to hold your puppies attention. When fetch training a puppy – make sure you end the training before he loses his attention – this will keep your puppy interested every time you restart the fetch training process.

Tip 4 – Stage 4 – Fetch

Right here we go…

Now you have your dog on a leash, a toy, your dog’s undivided attention, and a treat – You are now ready to to start the fetch training process. Hold your dog/puppy quite tightly on the leash and keeping his attention – wave the toy in front of him and the throw it away – only a few feet – you want it to be in your dog’s eye line. As you throw it say in a firm voice ‘fetch’ and let your dog run after the toy. When your dog has got the toy in his mouth gently draw the dog back in with your leash. When he is within reach, offer the treat and say ‘give’ and take the toy from your dog’s mouth. Make sure you aren’t pulling and tugging for the toy-this isn’t a game and your dog needs to understand that. Now it’s time to praise your dog – make a really big deal of it make your dog realize that you are thrilled. Repeat ‘good dog’ and pat and pet him. Continue to repeat stages 4 and 5 until you feel he is getting bored or losing his attention

If you repeat this over the course of a week – any dog even the most stubborn breed will learn to fetch

Dog Biting – How To Ensure That Our Children Are Safe

Stop dog Biting
Does your pet dog have a tendency to bite? It’s an issue that if left alone, can become a critical one. Here are a few facts that may help you understand why your dog is biting, and a few tips on how you can help your dog overcome their habit.

First of all, it is important to understand why your dog bites. The main reason is the canine instinct that all dogs have. Long ago, before dogs became domestic animals, they were wild and ran around in packs. The reason they bite is because of their instinct to dominate. Biting is a way dogs are able to show their authority and dominance over other dogs in the pack. Because of this instinct, your dog is biting in order to establish dominance and control.

Here are a few tips on stopping biting if your dog is still a puppy. When puppies bite, there may be several reasons for this. The first is that your puppy may simply be teething, and wants something to chew on. Also puppies bite when they are unsure of their rank in the “family” pack, and start biting to try to show dominance. If this is the case, you will want to show your new puppy that you are the leader and the one in control. Obedience training is a must, and it will also set a solid foundation for other doggie behavior issues and will also start your relationship with your puppy off on the right foot.

If your dog is no longer a puppy, but is considered a “teenager” (this is usually dogs from 1 to 2 years old) the training becomes a little more difficult, but it is still possible to rid your dog of this habit. Once your puppy becomes an older puppy, their cute chewing and gnawing becomes “play biting,” which is rougher than before. Though the nips may not break the skin or even hurt, it must be stopped because your dog is forming bad and possibly dangerous habits. By changing various aspects of the pup’s life (such as where they sleep, what toys they may play with, what time they are fed), you are able to remind your dog that you are the one in charge, and this also shows them that you will not allow them to become the dominant figure in the household. Again, formal obedience training with a professional dog trainer will do wonders; it is definitely worth the time and cost you put into it.

Once a dog reaches adulthood, the biting routine is very difficult to crack. By that time, a dog has already established its domain as the leader of the pack, and assumes authority for everything in and on your property. If the dog feels a family member is out of line, they will bite. This can be corrected, but the only reliable way is to hire a professional dog trainer that can work with you and your dog to break this biting habit.

Breaking a dog of biting is difficult and time consuming, but it is necessary; otherwise, your dog will grow up biting more and more until it becomes a serious problem. It is best if you nip it in the bud and start teaching your dog not to bite from the soonest time possible. Good luck beating the biting!

House Training a Puppy – Easy Tips

House Training a Puppy
Don’t let the idea of house training a puppy delay you in starting one of the most important behaviors in you and your dogs life. Crate Training is not the same as penning up your puppy inside the house. Rather, it’s a way for you to keep control of your pet in a humane and safe way. Crate training is a day and night effort until your puppy understands what’s expected and can hold their waste for more than a few hours. Your Dogs Grooming And Care

Dog Grooming
Dog grooming is an important task that is needed for more than one reason. Good grooming covers things such as bathes, brushing the fur and brushing the teeth. Good grooming helps the prevention of parasites such as flees and ticks on a dogs skin. Depending on the length of the fur will depend on how often you will need to groom your dog. The longer the fur the more washing and brushing it will require. The shorter the fur the less it will require maybe once a week.

What You Do In Dog Grooming

When you groom a dog you are taking care of their whole outer body, cleaning it and making it look better. You can easily groom your dog at home by bathing your dog, clipping their hair and nails and cleaning their eyes, ears and teeth. If you don’t have the room at home to do these things you can go to a professional grooming service and have it done.

Hair Trimming

When you trim a dog’s hair you may need to leash the dog. You will need to brush the hair both before and after trimming it as the brushing removes dead hair and stimulates the growth of new hair. Gently combing the matted hair is important in dog grooming, as matted hair resistant to brushing should be cut off with scissors. To trim a dog’s hair you will need a pair of good dog clippers which can be purchased at the vets or pet shops. The longer the hair though the more trimming it will require especially in the hot seasons.

Bathing

Before you trim your dog’s hair you will need to give them a good bath to remove the debris inside the fur then dry the fur completely before starting the trimming process. During summered you can wash your dog outside with a hose but during the colder months a bathtub is a better option with warm water.

Nail Clipping

It is best to start clipping your dog when they are puppies so that they get accustomed to the process. You need to take extreme care when clipping a dog’s nail especially to avoid the quick from being cut. If you do cut the quick then press on the bleeding area until the wound stops bleeding.

Cleaning Eyes, Ears and Teeth

Don’t forget that the eyes, ears and teeth are an essential part of grooming your dog as well. The dogs ears need to be checked for parasites, dirt and scratches etc. Depending on the dog will depend on what eye care it will require. Some dogs have hair that grow around the eye which needs trimming occasionally other dogs will have weeping eyes that will need to be washed out on a daily basis to avoid infection. The groomer can remove any dirt or foreign matter from the eyes, or from around its corners, with a soft clean cloth. Dogs teeth can be clean by giving your dog bones once a week or using specially designed tooth paste and tooth brush for dogs as well as giving then good dog biscuits.

How to Prevent Your Dog From Biting

Stop dog Biting
There are many reasons that a dog may bite. Nipping is a natural kind of biting in puppy play. However, you must modify your dogs behavior when it begins to bite aggressively or else it may get worse and eventually get you and your pet in some trouble. Having your dog put down and yourself sued because of your dog’s aggressive behavior is something you really want to avoid.

Before you begin to modify your dogs behavior, you will need some basic instruction and tips on the process of reversing your dogs bad habits.

1. Begin With a Thorough Physical Exam For Your Dog.

Make sure you don’t address your dogs behavioral problems before you make sure that it is not a physiological issue. Have a vet perform tests on your dog’s thyroid, physiological, and circulation indicators for signs of a chemical imbalance. Due to physical malfunctions or defects that can be otherwise asymptomatic, dogs can become aggressive. Before undergoing behavior modification, you should consider overruling these possibilities.

2. Identify The Stimulus.

A dog may bite for multiple reasons such as fear, over stimulation, aggression, or perceived threats over territory. It is essential to understand what causes your dog to react in this manner. There are two options available, you can modify your dogs behavior to respond differently to such trigger of you may remove the trigger.

Tips And Techniques

There are a couple of methods you may use to modify your dogs behavior once you have established that your dog’s biting habits are behavioral.

1. Simulate Bite Inhibition With Your Puppy.

Have you ever noticed that your puppies play nip and bite each other over their mothers nipples? If you ever closely observe puppy play, then you will notice how a puppy may sometimes yip and withdraw from the play. The puppy that stops the play is showing bite inhibition. This sort of behavior shows the more aggressive puppy that he has over stepped his boundaries and that it is unacceptable to bite in areas where it hurts. This sort of behavior may also be simulated when your puppy gets too rambunctious during play. Make a loud yelp and then halt the game immediately. In no time your puppy will soon learn to stop this behavior.

2. Allow your dog some space and time to adjust to the new environment.

Walk your dog in a low distraction area close to home and keep your concentration on your dog. This will allow an easy space for training and an environment where you can take your puppy out of harms way when you may need to. Your dog will then not feel any sort of threat from his or her surroundings and your dog will pay close attention because of the lack of distraction.

3. Communicating With Your Dog.

Although dogs are not smarter than humans, they are smart and can recognize the hand that puts food in their bowls. So speak to your dog. They can recognize the mood you are in and respond accordingly. In that same manner, construct a relationship with your dog. Your prime communication goal is attention. It becomes easier to communicate and eventually adapt to the various alternative responses to certain triggers once you can hold your dog’s attention.

It will take some commitment, commendable effort, and time to modify your dogs behavior. Work with your dog, not against him. When it comes to a grown dog, you may want to seek the help of a professional to modify the dogs behavior.

If you want to learn more, you can read this article on how to Stop Dog Biting or these reviews of products that address dog biting problems Best Dog Training Products. For more information about dog training and dog behavior problems visit Dog Training.

Dog Training Techniques: How Dog Training Has Progressed Over the Last Few Decades

dog training methods
When a dog owner looks down at their brand new, small and tender puppy quietly sleeping in its little bed, it’s difficult to think that in just two to three months it may grow to be 40, 50, or even up to 100 pounds depending on the type of breed. Although your dog’s behavior may cute at first, like jumping up and putting his front paws on your body, these actions will be far less pleasurable when your dog is all grown up and literally knocking you over.

The best thing to do is to start training your puppy from the first day so that he can learn good manners as he grows into adulthood. Dogs that are not trained in this manner usually wind up learning all of the wrong stuff and their owners wonder why they cannot seem to get their dogs to behave as they age.

In the past, when dog training methods used more punishment oriented (using harsh treatment to train puppies), dog trainers normally required all puppy trainees to be at least 6 months old. The reason was because to the fact that such physical correction protocols used could not be done with dogs that were considered too small or too young.

What is ironic about dog training in past decades is that by the time most puppies are six months old they are big enough and very stubborn enough to ignore commands and are altogether difficult to train.

Modern Times Bring Better Dog Training Methods

Over the last couple of decades, the dog training profession has accepted more friendly and loving training tactics for their puppy clients. Many dog trainers now accept puppies that are as young as eight to ten weeks old. They are normally enrolled in socialization classes and puppy kindergarten.

Good training is now used instead of the old-school methods of bad reinforcement. Many puppies are taught to walk calmly on the leash. They learn the essential commands of sit, stay, lie down, and come. Furthermore, other useful techniques are learned by puppies such as how to calm down, give and take their paw, and polite greeting.

Today Dog Owners Are More Involved With Training

Another interesting portion of raising dogs that has been noted over the last 10 years is that more and more dog owners have taken it upon themselves to train their own puppies.

This is because to the fact that so many dog training publications and manuals have been published. Today’s dog training programs are based more and more on scientific principles and psychological studies of dog behavior and temperament.

Several puppy training programs have taught dog owners to utilize methods such as clicker training and luring.

Clicker training includes the use of a small mechanism that makes a clicking sound when pressed. When your dog hears the sound he will associate the click with whatever reward you give him. This actually tells the dog that something good is coming and he should repeat whatever behavior or action you taught him.

Luring dog training techniques involves using food such as a dog treat, or even a toy, to induce the dog to display a precise behavior in order to follow the lure in hopes of receiving the reward.

Beyond Basic Dog Training

dog training equipment
Obedience instruction has become more accessible to common people with the publication of the Diane Bauman’s guide Beyond Basic Dog Training. This book is a door open towards the secrets of an entire training philosophy, and it has been successfully used even for the preparation for canine competitions. Beyond Basic Dog Training helps you understand the principles and patterns on which dogs learn, which is in fact a dual system of trial and error. With Beyond Basic Dog Training you will learn to apply corrections in a positive way, teaching your canine friend not to fear failure.

As Diane Bauman proves in Beyond Basic Dog Training, for a successful program you have to understand that from the two elements involved in the equation, both are thinking. There is the “thinking handler” in charge of the “thinking dog”, so don’t ignore you’re pet’s “feelings”, on the contrary stick to an effective development of the communication level. With Beyond Basic Dog Training you will come to achieve more than obedient behavioral patterns, you will understand your dog and learn to respect and listen to its needs. We’re talking about security, trust and confidence and lots of fun too.

With a guide such as Beyond Basic Dog Training you can have fun entertaining classes with your dog in the comfort of your backyard. At least you’re 100% sure of the methods used, since you are in perfect trust. With Beyond Basic Dog Training you’ll turn your dog into a great companion; therefore it is very good for puppies to benefit from a fast and very humane way of teaching. It is perhaps the time now to answer a simple question: why would anyone go beyond basic dog training? Simple methods will only leave the training process at a minimal level exploiting the specific animal drives as much as possible.

Going beyond basic dog training, means getting to understand the more complex structures that make your dog what it really is; you come to appreciate a wagging tail more than you would have done before. Books such as Beyond Basic Dog Training may prove to be the right choice and the best source of information for strengthening man-animal friendship. Being able to see your dog succeed in performing complex tasks is the reward of every owner and amateur trainer. For other insightful sources, feel free to have a look at sites such as www.dog-training-expert.com. May all your efforts be fruitful!
